Septic Tank Pumping

The pumping service is designed to remove the solid matter from the inside of the tank. Excessive build-up can lead to back ups in the house or damages to the field lines. It’s recommended that you pump your tank every 3 to 5 years for proper maintenance. Tanks manufactured after 2000 have a baffle and filter in them. This divides the tank into two compartments, with the first compartment being two-thirds of the capacity.  Both compartments need to be pumped and filter cleaned during service.

Field Line Repairs and Remediation

Most conventional septic systems are designed as anaerobic and in the septic field line a process take place and a mat begins to form, which is referred to as bio-mat. The bio-mat is important in processing the discharge from the septic tank, but with time this mat can increase and become restrictive, not allowing water to reach the soils. This leads to water backing up in the house or surfacing in the yard. When this happens a replacement field is often installed, but with advances in wastewater technologies remediation of failed systems are another solution.

Alternative Septic System

These systems are just that, alternative to conventional gravity flow systems. These can be systems with pumps for lifting to higher elevations, or pressurizing fields. The media used to disburse wastewater to the soil can be chambers, drip tubing or any other graveless media. Advanced units for treating the wastewater can be used with these also.

ATU

This stands for aerobic treatment units. These systems are designed to have air introduced by an air pump or aerator. ATU also stands for advanced treatment units; these are units that can have a media inside a tank such as peat or foam that wastewater flows over. There are many brands of atu’s Clear stream, Hydro-action, Aqua-safe, and Delta to name a few. They all have different ways of manufacturing and design, but all must meet NSF standards.

Pump Systems

A pump system consist of tank that collects water from a septic tank or atu, a pump, float switches, a control panel and riser. As water comes into a tank a float switch will rise with the water. At a preset level the switch will send a signal to the control panel turning on the pump, thus sending the water to the drain field. As the level lowers the switch will turn off the pump. A second float switch called an alarm float is located above the first float, should the water get to a predetermined height this switch sends a signal to the control panel setting off a high-water alarm. The riser is installed for servicing the pump.

Pump Replacement

Pumps have electric motors inside housings, with seals and bearings. As with any mechanical piece of equipment they will wear out and have to be replaced. Power surges can also damage pumps. Pumps come in different sizes for different applications and should be properly sized for the right installation or replacement.

Drip Systems

When traditional systems can not be installed due to limitations of a home site; often a drip system can be installed. These systems are installed 6 to 12 inches in the ground using drip tubing such as Netafim or Geoflow. They are pressurized with a pump creating equal distribution of the wastewater thru out the system. With proper design, installation, use and maintenance these systems can give years of service.

Pressure Jetting

This is used to clear pvc pipe that run from your house to tank, or sewer line. A jetting nozzle is attached to the end of a high pressure hose with the other end connected to a high pressure water pump. Small holes are in the jetting nozzle at precise angles and with the high pressure of water they can cut thru or clean a pipe of a blockage.

Risers

Risers are used to create access to your septic tank or pump tank for service. Risers should be brought above grade to prevent water from entering. Lids should be sturdy and secured to the riser.

Service and Maintenance

Two of the most important words for any septic system are service and maintenance. The most over looked thing on a house is the septic system, until there is a back up into the house or water in the yard. In Georgia atu’s and drip systems come with an initial service plan and should be installed so service can be preformed , but even conventional septic systems require servicing on a regular bases. Often a routine service can lead to saving a costly repair if a problem is corrected in time.
